The So-Called Gap in Genesis

There are those who say that there is a gap in Genesis, chapter one, between verses one and two. The evolutionists, and others believe the universe had its start billions of years ago. But some Christians believe that God made the universe millions, not billions, of years ago. Thus they say that there is a gap of time between verses one and two. Many Christians seem to have taken bits and pieces of evolution and tried to place them within the Biblical creation. Why do they do that? I believe that some individuals think that millions of years ago, God made everything there was in the universe. It is true that God created everything, but I believe that it was not millions of years ago.

It is also believed that Satan and 1/3 of the angels rebelled against God, and God, being a just and holy God, had to throw them out of Heaven onto the newly created earth. This, too, is true, but not millions of years ago, as they think. Because God threw Satan and those fallen angels out of Heaven, these Christians apparently think that the earth thus became defiled and so God, in His righteous judgment, had to destroy the earth. Then make a new earth. Under certain circumstances I would probably agree.

However, there is a problem with that scenario. If God had taken Satan and those fallen angels (who are known as demons) and had cast them into the Lake of Fire, somewhere out in the second heaven, and then created a new earth, it would make sense. But to destroy the earth and yet, at the same time, leave Satan and the demons here on earth to wander around, doesn't make sense to me. For having destroyed the old earth because of Satan and those fallen angels, the new earth would quickly become defiled as well. So that cannot possible be the reason why God destroyed the earth, if indeed He did, as some Christians say when they try to put a gap of time between verse one and two.

Satan and those fallen angels rebelled first in Heaven and God did not destroy it. So there was no need for God to destroy the earth either. I believe God made the heavens and the earth just one time, as recorded in the Book of Genesis. That happened nearly 6000 years ago. (Nathan M. Meyer had a Longevity chart which showed the life span of man.). God in the person of Jesus created everything in six literal days, which were 24 hour days, the same as we know today. And then God rested on the 7th day, just as He said He did. And, therefore, I believe that there was no gap between verses one and two of Genesis, chapter one.

The Scriptures say,
"And the earth was without form, and void:..." (Gen. 1: 2)

Now, you may get the idea that the phrase "without form" carries the thought of no longer being what it was. And the word "void" might give you the idea that the earth was and then God destroyed it. But that is not the case. The phrase "without form. I believe, means it had no shape to it except, of course, being round. And the word "void", I believe, means incomplete or not finished. It lacked something. So, the word "void" could be referring to the fact that the earth lacked something, it was not complete (finished). And that is exactly what, I believe, it meant.

The writer of the book of Proverbs talked about being void of wisdom and understanding. He said, "...a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding." (Prov. 10: 13), "He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbor..." (Prov. 11: 12), "...he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding." (Prov. 12: 11)

Here is something to think about. It is indeed possible that from the time of creation to the end of the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel) will be a full 6000 years. Add then the 1000 year reign of Christ of Revelation chapter 20, verses 1 - 6 and we will have a total of 7000 years. Have you noticed how God likes to do things with the number 7? For example: seven days in a week (Gen. 1: 1 - 31, 2: 1, Ex. 20: 9 - 11); rest on the seventh (Gen. 2: 2 - 3, Ex. 20: 10 - 11, 31: 15, 17, 35: 2); to let the land rest every seventh year (Ex. 23: 10 - 11, Lev. 25: 5). Then we find the number 7 in the following illustrations: the priest dipping his finger in the blood and sprinkling it before the Lord, in front of the vail (veil) seven times and on the mercy seat, which is within the vail (curtain) (Lev. 4: 6, 17, 16: 2, 14 - 15, 19). Man is to let the land rest every seven years (Ex. 23: 10 - 11, Lev. 25: 5), the sprinkling of oil before the Lord seven times (Lev. 14: 16), the 7 priests, the 7 trumpets of rams' horns, and by the circling of the city Jericho for 6 days and on the seventh day circling the city 7 times, etc... (Josh. 6), at the end of seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles...etc... (Dent. 31: 10), etc.... There are more, but that is enough for now.

By the way, dinosaurs did not live millions of years ago as some think. I believe they were created on the 6th day of creation along with the great beasts, and creeping things, of the earth that are referred to in the book of Genesis, chapter 1. I believe the Bible tells us about some of those dinosaurs, etc.... See Job 40: 15 - 24. That description is not an elephant or a hippopotamus. That is a big dinosaur. It was still alive in the days of Job, which is after the flood of Noah. Now read Job 41: 1 - 2, 7, 9, 14 - 34. It is talking about the leviathan, which may have been a "kronosaurus" according to the book listed below. Read the description that Job gives of that great sea monster who lived in the sea. This is no ordinary sea creature. King David wrote about him in the book of Psalm (Ps. 104: 24 - 26). So, it was alive even in his day. A Japanese boat found a dinosaur-like creature (plesiosaur) near Christchurch, New Zealand (Apr. 10, 1977). Read the book called THE GREAT DINOSAUR MYSTERY AND THE BIBLE by Paul S. Taylor (Master Book Publishers, San Diego, California). You can also get books, etc... from INSTITUTE for CREATION RESEARCH (ICR), P.O. Box 2667 El Cajon. See my manuscript called "The Three Sons of Noah and Their Descendents". It tells us how that all of mankind, the whole human race, who were born after the flood, descended from Noah's three sons. (See Gen. 9: 18 - 19, chapters 10 and 11, I Chr. chapters 1 through 8, Matt. 1: 1 - 17, Luke 3: 23 - 38.).
