The War Against Jerusalem
It is my purpose to show you that Joel, Zechariah, and John (in the book of Revelation) are referring to the same battle. The enemy soldiers, who are from all nations, will be gathered together in a place called Armageddon (Rev. 16: 16) for one purpose, to fight and destroy the Jews (Israelites). Whether this battle (war) starts at Armageddon or at Jerusalem, there is one thing for sure, those enemy soldiers will go up to Jerusalem and fight the Jews/Israelites in that city. And there, at Jerusalem, Jesus will destroy those enemy soldiers on the last day of this battle as He returns to earth. I call this battle The War Against Jerusalem. Others call it Final Dawn Over Jerusalem.
Let's take a look at what Zechariah has to say about this battle.
"For I (God) will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled (ransacked and robbed), and the woman ravished (raped); and half of the city shall go forth into captivity (exile), and the residue (the remaining portion) of the people shall not be cut off from the city." (Zech. 14: 1)
Some of the Jews/Hebrews will be held captive during this battle.
"Behold, I (God) will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem (the inhabitants of Jerusalem)."
"In (on) that day (when the Lord Jesus comes back to earth) shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem..."
According to Joel, in chapter 3, verse 16, Jesus will speak (utters His voice) and every enemy soldier, who was fighting the Jews/Israelites, and is at this point fighting against the Lord and His army, will drop dead (Rev. 19: 21). (See also Rev. 19: 19.).
By the way, the Lord is not pouring out His judgment upon Jerusalem or His people, the Jews/Israelites, in Joel 3 or Zechariah 14. Nor is God's wrath unleashed in Revelation chapter 19 on His people, the Jews/Israelites, and so forth. He, instead, punishes the multitudes of enemy soldiers who are from all nations of the world for coming against Israel, Jerusalem, and His people, the Jews/Hebrews (Israelites).
It is true that God gathers all nations against Jerusalem (Joel 3: 2, Zech. 14: 2), and allows half of the people of the city, the city of Jerusalem, to be taken captive by those enemy soldiers. However, the reason that God gathers those enemy soldiers from all nations is to destroy them. (Read Joel 3: 2, 9, 14, 16, Zech. 14: 1 - 2, 3, 12, Rev. 19: 21.). Remember, it is the multitudes of enemy soldiers who destroy a portion of the city of Jerusalem, and fight against the Jews/Israelites and kill them. Just because God allows those enemy soldiers to do those things does not mean that He is pouring His wrath or judgment upon His people.
Zechariah 14: 3 says,
"And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth." (Zech. 14: 12)
This battle will start sometime during the 45 days that Daniel 12: 12 refers to. It will end on the 45th day of Daniel's 45 days. Read "The Revelation/Second Coming of Christ" for The War Against Jerusalem, the Day of the Lord, and the Second Coming together.
Let me stop and tell you the sequence. The 7 vial judgments will take place during the 30 days told by Daniel. The War Against Jerusalem will take place sometime during the last 45 days (Daniel 12: 12). The Jews (at least some of them) will return to Israel and Jerusalem at the beginning/start of those 45 days, if not before this time. (They may return to Israel and Jerusalem during the 30 days immediately after the 70th week of Daniel.). But not only that, those enemy soldiers who are from all nations will also move toward Armageddon and Jerusalem at the beginning of those 45 days (Dan. 12: 12). A great portion of the Jews/Hebrews will return to Israel and Jerusalem (See Zech. 12: 7 - 14, 13: 1 - 9, 14: 13 - 14.) because the Bible teaches that they are there in Israel and Jerusalem when this battle, The War Against Jerusalem, begins. They will fight in that battle, remember. (Read also Rev. 16: 14, 16, 19: 11, Zech. 14: 4 - 5, 9, Rev. 19: 15, Joel 3: 13, Rev. 14: 17 - 20, 19: 17 - 21, Zech. 12: 2 - 4, 8 - 9, 10, Rev. 1: 7, Zech. 14: 1 - 3, 12, 16.). Let's go to the book of Joel, chapter 3, to see what he has to say about this battle.
"I (God is speaking) will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead (enter into judgment, NASB) with (against) them (those enemy soldiers who are from all nations) there (in Jerusalem, in the valley of Jehoshaphat) for My people and for My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted My land." (Joel 3: 2)
"Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare [for] war,...let all the men of war draw near; let them come up (to the valley of Jehoshaphat):" (Joel 3: 9) (See Joel 3: 12.).
"Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears:..." (Joel 3: 10)
"Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen (gentiles), and gather yourselves together round about..."
God will gather together all nations of the world unto Jerusalem in this battle. Then Jesus will destroy the enemy soldiers in the valley of Jehoshaphat, the valley of decision (Joel 3: 12, 14).
"Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down: for the press is full (wine press), the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great." (Joel 3: 13)
Joel 3: 13 fits in beautifully with Revelation chapter 14, verses 17 - 18, 19 - 20. Let's read what John said in the 14th chapter of the book of Revelation.
"And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle."
The blood will flow (in the low lying areas, the ravine etc...) 180 to 200 miles by the time this battle/war comes to its final end in Jerusalem.
In the book of Revelation John says,
"And he (Satan)..."
The demons will also deceive all nations into going to Israel and Jerusalem.
"...gathered them... (the enemy soldiers, who are from all nations of the world) ...together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon." (Rev. 16: 16)
Note in the above passage that it says, "...and of the whole world...". This is the key verse that shows us the difference from all other battles (wars). It involves the whole world.
"And I (John) saw the beast (Antichrist), and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him (Christ) that sat on the horse (Jesus' white horse), and against His (Jesus') army." (Rev. 19: 19)
"And the remnant..." (Rev. 19: 21)
This is the remaining portion of enemy soldiers who are from all nations that have not died in this battle/war up to this point. Some of them have already died in the battle but those enemy soldiers who have survived this war, and are alive, up to this point are called "the remnant."
As Jesus descends from the sky these enemy soldiers "...were slain with the sword (by the Word) of Him that sat upon the horse (Rev. 19: 11, 15), which sword (His Word, Heb. 4: 12) proceeded out of His (Jesus') mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh." (Rev. 19: 21).
By the way, the beast (Antichrist), and the kings of the earth, and their armies (Rev. 19: 19), will be in Jerusalem (Joel 3: 14) when Jesus comes back to earth in the Revelation/Second Coming. (Read Joel 3: 2, 12, 14, Zech. 14: 2, Rev. 19: 15, 19, 21.). Those armies of Revelation 19: 19 (the enemy soldiers), which are the same enemy soldiers that Joel and Zechariah mention, are from all nations of the world. They will be fighting the Jews/Israelites on the last day of The War Against Jerusalem as Jesus returns to earth. (Read Joel 3: 13, Rev. 14: 17 - 18, 19 - 20, 19: 11.). (See also Zech. 12: 2 - 3, 8 - 9, 14: 2, Joel 3: 1 - 2, 9, 12, 14, 16, Rev. 16: 12 - 14, 16, 19: 15, 17 - 18, 19, 21.). When the beast (Antichrist) and those enemy soldiers see Jesus descending from heaven, the sky, to earth, they will stop fighting the Israelites and will then turn to fight against Jesus and His army (Rev. 19: 19). As Jesus descends from the sky riding His white horse both the beast (Antichrist) and the false prophet will be taken and thrown into the Lake of Fire (Rev. 19: 20). Then Jesus will destroy those enemy soldiers (Rev. 19: 15, 19, 21), who were fighting against Israel, by speaking the Word, and giving the order for their deaths. (See Joel 3: 16, Zech. 14: 3, 12, Rev. 19: 21.).
