What About Those Signs in Matthew Chapter 24, Verses 29 and 30?

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:"
"And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matt. 24: 29 - 30) (See Rev. 1: 7, Zech. 12: 10.).

Some individuals may get the idea that those things (changes, etc...), which happen in Matthew 24: 29, have to do with Jesus' coming, and Matthew 24: 30 will happen at the same time, immediately after the tribulation period, the 70th week of Daniel. But that is not the case. Those things that take place in Matthew 24: 29 must stay separate from the sign that is referred to in Matthew 24: 30. Matthew 24: 29 will happen immediately after the tribulation period. Whereas Matthew 24: 30 will take place at a later time.

There are some people who think that the signs in Matthew 24: 4 - 7 are signs that have to do with the Revelation/Second Coming as described in Revelation 19: 11, Zechariah 14: 4 - 5, Acts 1: 11. However, it is my belief that these signs in Matthew 24: 4 - 7 are referring to the Rapture, not the Revelation/Second Coming. Regardless of whether those signs will take place before the Rapture, or whether they are in connection with the Revelation/Second Coming, it still comes out the same. The things that take place "immediately after" the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel) are those things that happen to the sun, moon and star, etc..., and that is all. Jesus then begins to describe His coming in Matthew 24: 30.

There are many theories used to combat or dispute what the pre-tribulationist believes. There are several views such as: The pre-wrath rapture of the church, the mid-tribulationist, the post-tribulationist theories. Those who present their pre-tribulation views are accused of teaching that view because of fear of the tribulation period. But that is not the reason why I present it the way I do. It is because I can see clearly that the Scriptures teach that the Rapture takes place before the tribulation period will happen, and before the first seal is opened (broken). The only thing that I can see in the above theories is that a lot of Scripture has been taken out of context. That is especially true with The Pre-wrath Rapture of the Church book by Marvin Rosenthal. The pre-wrath theory is definitely not the correct one.

Let's take a look at the verse given below.

"Immediately after..." (Matt. 24: 29) Immediately after what?

"Immediately after the tribulation of those days..." (Matt. 24: 29)

This is referring to the tribulation period, the 70th week of Daniel (Dan. 9: 27). And, as we shall see, something is going to take place immediately after the tribulation period. What?

"Immediately after the tribulation period of those days..."
"...shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars (some of them, not all) shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:" (Matt. 24: 29)

That is what will take place "immediately after" the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel). Those things that will happen to the sun, moon, and stars, etc.... The phrase "immediately after" is not referring to what will take place in the next verse, verse 30 in the book of Matthew chapter 24. But it is referring to what is going to take place in verse 29. Then after the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel) is over, and after those things that will happen to the sun, moon, and stars have taken place, there is something else that will happen. It is the sign of the Son of man.

Now, let's take a look at those verses that have to do with Jesus' coming in the Revelation/Second Coming.

"And then (sometime after the signs, etc..., in Matt. 24: 29 have taken place) shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:..." (Matt. 24: 30)

Only those who are still alive at the time of Jesus' return will see the sign (appearance) of the Son of man (that's Jesus) appearing in heaven (the sky). That is what I believe the sign of the Son of man is. It is His (Jesus') appearance (the unveiling of Christ) in the sky as He comes back to earth. (Read Rev. 19: 11, Acts 1: 11, Zech. 14: 4 - 5.). When Jesus appears in the sky, at the time of the Revelation/Second Coming, this is what will happen (Rev. 1: 7).

"...and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matt. 24: 30)

The word "sign" in Matthew 24: 30 is not referring to those things that have taken place in the previous verse, verse 29 of Matthew 24 nor to the signs of Matthew 24: 4 - 7. It is referring to the future coming sign of His appearance, the Son of man, in the sky. This does not mean that His coming will take place immediately after the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel). Because the "immediately after" is referring only to those things (signs, etc...) happening in Matthew 24: 29, and no more. Note the use of time in Matthew 24: 30. The Scripture says, "...And then...". I believe the word "then" is suggesting that after the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel) is finished, and after those things have taken place in Matthew 24: 29, "then" the event that Matthew 24: 30 talks about will come about. The changes, etc..., that will happen to the sun, moon, and stars, etc..., are only referring to the things that will take place immediately after the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel), and the sign of the Son of man that is referred to in Matthew 24: 30 is about another thing, namely, the sign of His coming. The phrase "And then shall appear the sign..." is in connection with the coming of the Lord to earth. (See Rev. 19: 11, Acts 1: 11, Zech. 14: 4 - 5.). It is something that those people who are alive when He returns will see as Jesus comes down out of the sky.

The phrase "the sign" (Matt. 24: 30), I believe, has to do with "appearance." "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven (the sky)..." As Jesus descends from the heavens to the sky then those who are alive at that time will be able to see Jesus, the Son of man, as He descends from the sky to the Mount of Olives where His feet last stood, and the Mount will split in two. (See Zech. 14: 4 - 5, Acts 1: 11, Rev. 19: 11.). There is a whole lot more that will take place on that day, but that is enough to establish my point of what will happen when He returns.

By the way, Jesus does not necessarily have to come immediately after the tribulation period. The only thing that has to take place right after the tribulation period (the 70th week of Daniel) are those signs that Matthew 24: 29 describe. Matthew was only guided to write about those things that would take place in Matthew 24: 29 and then show that the Lord would return after that, but not necessarily indicating that His coming had to happen immediately. Matthew was not guided by the Holy Spirit to write about the 30 days and 45 days that Daniel described in his book. (See Dan. 12: 11 - 12.). The phrase "Immediately after the tribulation of those days...", in Matthew 24: 29, is not referring to immediately after the 5th and 6th seals of the Great Tribulation. It is referring to the end of the tribulation period. Matthew 24: 9 is the beginning, Matthew 24: 15 is the middle, and Matthew 24: 29 is the end of the tribulation period, the 70th week of Daniel.
